This book was charming, and not at all annoyingly realistic-high-school-angsty-romance. Just really funny, and really sweet.

One of the best representations of high school that I've read - when you don't really understand what's going on, when everything and everyone is changing, and you don't know why. Even your parents become strangers, even when you've known them all your life. There's no insta-love, no vampires or werewolves, and hell, there's hardly any kissing. But such a great story. I loved Sam and Camilla - the whole 'does she/doesn't she' confusion and heartbreak. It's set in Australia, so some of the slang was a little confusing, but it doesn't hinder understanding the story. Definitely on my list of favorite books this year.

Sam loves movies. He's a movie geek. His own life is pretty much in a holding pattern - "on pause" - he calls it - as he survives high school with all its awkward undignified AWKWARDNESS. But then he meets Camilla. Camilla is cool. In a geeky way. Or geeky in a cool way. And pretty, and friendly, and seems to want to hang out with him. What a stroke of luck to have a cool, friendly girl to hang out with! But then he has to go and start Liking her, making everything complicated. She'll feel awkward if he tells her he likes her, and it'll maybe ruin the most fun, best friendship he's ever had.
