I am not usually a graphic novel reader but, I read this one when I heard Miss Delilah Dirk described as a female Indiana Jones. I had to. Who wouldn't love that? This turned out to be a great way for me to break into the graphic novel genre. This novel seems to be more about setting the scene for future novels (I hope!). The character's are developed here and so on. I had hoped for a more substantial story line, like a really complex mission or well developed villain. I hope that all comes in more installments!!

Delilah is a traveler, a fighter, and a thief extraordinaire, and one with a very clever tongue at that. During her escape, Selim is swept away with her, but while she finds this all invigorating, he on the other hand, is out of his element. As the story is given from Selim's view, he devotes a lot of thought to this mysterious woman. While he initially follows her out of debt, the story is as much about his gradual acceptance, and eventual conscious decision to go with her. The two have excellent chemistry, as a adventurer and her side-kick; Selim brings a cool head to her impulsive nature, which helps to create respect between the two. Interspersed between these dynamic events, are quiet moments of bonding that truly define these two. The art is bright, and full of action, but the artists greatest contribution is her panels which have a perfect sense of comedic timing. Delilah Dirk is delightfully funny, energetic, and epic.

A gorgeously illustrated graphic novel telling a story that might be called cliched except that its bold, uber-confident, swashbuckling thief and adventurer is a woman while the meek tag-along who's greatest talent is making excellent tea is a man. Very fun. And so, so good to look at.

An enjoyable if light tale of an adventurous woman who sweeps a placid, tea-loving lieutenant into a life of adventure. Great illustrations, but I would have liked more meat.

"Selim might be a soldier, but he prefers the quiet life. When he crosses paths with an infamous adventurer named Delilah Dirk, however, that quiet is destroyed, and thoughtful, tea-drinking Selim can only hold on tight as he's swept up into Delilah's world of swordfights, stealing, travel, and intrigue. The sumptuously coloured illustrations overflow with energy, and are perfectly suited to the lush historical settings and breathless action of this rambunctious tale. If you're looking for sharp dialogue, an unconventional friendship, and a swashbuckling heroine, you don't want to miss Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant."
