Wonderful wrap-up to the trilogy. Strong all the way from start to finish, in terms of more character growth, new plot twists, provides an actual firm ending...Very solid finish to this interesting series.

*This review contains spoilers for those who have not read the 1st and 2nd books* This series just got better with each installment. There is true character growth, even for the secondary players. Book 3 takes us to the heart of the enemy in Queen Elisa's quest for peace and to reclaim her land, not to mention her delicious relationship struggle with the commander of her guard, Hector. There is depth to the relationships in this compelling series paired nicely with political intrigue, a spiritual magic, and an epic journey.

This series had one of the best endings I have ever read. I absolutely adore this series. Rae Carson has done it again! I can't wait for the Goldscryer saga.

Well written; exciting; full of action; with a good ending. I loved all of the characters in this book & it is rather sad to know that this is the last book. I am keeping my fingers crossed for Rea Carson to keep on writing.

A fabulous end to an amazing series! I couldn't have designed a better protagonist if I tried for a million years! The ideas and attitudes presented are wonderful. I'm only sad that it is the end of an era. I hope for many more stories from Carson in the future!

This book didn't disappoint at all! The last two endings to a series I have read were bad, but i'm really glad this book broke the streak. I love the pacing of the book and just how it's written, there are some things that for me many authors struggle with, like action scenes, but Carson does them really well. I love all of the main characters, which is actually hard to do. Before I didn't really care about Hector or Belen but this book made me love them and it also reaffirmed my love of Storm. Elisa really is one of my favorite female heroines, her development has been great to read as well as her entire journey.

This final installment did not disappoint! It was everything that I expected and more. I could not possibly recommend this series any higher than I already do and Rae Carson has now forever embedded herself as one of my favorite authors! I love her style and her humor. Phenomenal!!

Rae Carson does not disappoint with the third and final installment of Elisa's story. Like the high fantasy greats she's been compared to, Carson effortlessly mingles adventure, peril and romance, all in an original world that feels like medieval Spain, if medieval Spain had been bordered by murderous Vikings. One of the best books of this year!

"The Godstone embedded in her navel marked her at birth as a heroine, and now Queen Elisa must live up to her long-foretold destiny. In the final book of the Fire and Thorns trilogy, Elisa is determined to rescue her beloved Hector from the fiery Inviernos, as well as protect her kingdom from invasion and treachery. Though she's gained strength, courage, and magical ability, Elisa realises that to meet the challenges of leadership, she needs her "only lasting power": her intelligence. For more high-stakes action, powerful female characters, and intricate world-building, check out Kristin Cashore's Seven Kingdoms trilogy, starting with Graceling." The Bitter Kingdom by Carson Rae is action packed, suspenseful, a romantic page turner. With all these elements the book would be enjoyable to many people. The Bitter Kingdom is the third and last book in a series called The Girl of Fire and Thorns. It ties the series together well and the story fills in a lot of plot holes and ties loose ends very well. The beginning of the book starts slow and is hard to understand if you haven’t had the time to read the previous books but it makes more sense as it goes along. If you haven’t read the other books it isn’t all that necessary. The story of this book fills a lot of story points that you could only understand from the other books. It however also has its own gripping plot and the fours allies at the start of the story are intriguing and develop well as the story goes along. The many genres in the novel also makes it a page turner. The book goes from suspense to action to romance in a matter of pages. I personally liked the story centered on Elisa the main character and how she had to get stronger physically and emotionally to overcome the many trials and obstacles she had to overcome. Without giving away too much Elisa goes through great deals of pain but finds a way to overcome her struggles with the help of her friends and allies. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in fantasy novels but it also offers a great deal of variety to its genres so its hard to say who I wouldn’t recommend it too as well.
