Scarlet is loosely based on Little Red Riding Hood and the powerful male who seems to be helping her rescue her grandmother is rather like a wolf, but we are still in Cinder's world where she is on the run and the wicked Lunar Queen wants her, dead or alive. Even more than the first book, this world falls apart if you look too closely, but I enjoy the characters, especially Cinder and her droid/friend. Call it my guilty pleasure.

The second instalment in the Lunar Chronicles is as thrilling as the first. Like the Cinderella story, certain aspects of Red Riding Hood are incorporated in unique ways, like the hunter, or Scarlet wearing a red hoody. But best of all, is the new cast of characters whom are as deep, and driven as the originals. Scarlet is strong willed, and even when faced with betrayal, she never wavers from her path. That path leads her to Cinder, who is struggling to accept things, and is trying to figure out what to do. Their interactions in the coming volumes will be something to watch. As Kai is not present, Captain Thorne has been placed at Cinder's side, and so the wit she displayed previously, is thankfully not left out. As for the plot, it has some unexpected twists, the convergence of the Cinderella and Red Riding stories is thoroughly enjoyable, and the pacing is superb. Hopefully the next volume will continue in this vein.

Every bit as good as Cinder--which was AWESOME!!! Can't wait for Cress, then Winter... and whatever Marissa Meyer decides to write after that! Love the Lunar Chronicles!! <3

I loved this book!!!!! Cinder was a twist on Cinderella and Scarlet is a twist on Little Red Riding Hood. I absolutely loved the new characters, Scarlet, Wolf and Thorne. Scarlet like Cinder is a strong female character. There was more action in this book than in Cinder. Amazing!!!!! I can't wait until Cress!!

I love how Meyer is taking classic fairytales and putting a dystopian twist on them. Scarlet (little red riding hood) is not as good as Cinder in my opinion - it's quite a bit darker/more violent and the storyline isn't as captivating, but I still can't wait for Cress (Rapunzel)!

When I read that Scarlet was going to focus on an entirely different character I was disappointed but Meyer tied the two together wonderfully. I loved the way she created the new characters, tying them into the old ones. Scarlet was possibly better than Cinder, but I devoured them both within a day. I can't wait for the rest!

At first I was dubious in how Meyer would connect the characters together but she did an amazing job! Pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together! I also really liked Scarlet's character; sarcastic and funny. Can't wait for the next book :)

Good story. It takes a good writer to pull off cinderella as a cyborg - but Meyer does the job.

The lot thickens in Book 2 of the Lunar Chronicles. The dialogue is tighter, a great sense of humour and sarcasm develops in Cinder's character, new plotlines and characters are introduced and the connections between them are intricate and surprising. The character of Wolf is very cool and full of intrigue, constantly making the reader wonder, "is he a bad guy?", "is he a good guy?" I cannot wait for books 3 and 4!!
