Child prostitution. Angel is sixteen and popular with johns because she looks thirteen. Things were rough at home and Call gradually lured her away from her dad, got her hooked on the high of his "candy" and made her think that he loved her. Now she is trapped living with Call working the streets night after night in a drug-induced haze with no hope of escape. Serena (who was nineteen but looked sixteen) took Angel under her wing and loved and protected her, but Serena has disappeared. And now Call has brought in eleven-year-old Melli for Angel to teach and mentor. Angel doesn't really care what happens to herself, but she can't let Melli become first her and then Serena, so now she is going to try to write her own book of her own life with the ending of her choosing. If she can.

"Now I know / in a single breath of yes, yes, / you can hear your soul / leaking out your mouth." (31) "she got a date with Mr. P / and she's dead gone." (52) An important story about important themes. Perfect for a YA book because the adults gave up listening long ago.
