The ending of this book is really weird. But I guess what you can expect from a necromancer who is a vegetarian? I did enjoy the book and the 3rd person switch, and the pacing suited me just fine.

It's a really good book. Not as interesting as the one before it but, still it had something that made me want to keep reading it.

I'll say right out of the gate that I found this book to be just as enjoyable as the first one, and if you are a fan of this universe, this is definitely worth a read.

My only complaints that I could come up with is the pacing is really messed up and sporadic in this book. Chapters switch from serious, to lighthearted, to tragic, to hilarious. It messes up the pacing a bit. However, I do like the jumps from perspective to perspective in the book. Whenever it deals with protagonist Sam, it’s spoken in first person. Whenever it jumps to someone else it takes a 3rd person perspective.

The other complaint I have is I'm not sure I feel about the ending. It gets a little bit "power of friendshipy" for my taste and given how they built up this villain in these two books, how it ends doesn't feel like a logical fit to me.

That aside, the book was still an incredibly satisfying read and would highly recommend it. Here's hoping this series gets a movie or tv show.

"Sam LaCroix, former fry cook and brand-spanking-new necromancer, is attempting to adjust to the many rapid changes in his life...while also trying to prevent the possibly possessed house he's moved into from killing him. Sam's defeat of the thoroughly evil necromancer Douglas is still fresh, and as the newest member of the local magical council, he has a lot to learn - like the lesson that, in his new world, "dead" is a relative term. Snarky, hilarious, and full of monsters, magic, and the "witty, self-deprecating narration" (Kirkus Reviews) beloved of fans of the 1st book, Hold Me Closer, Necromancer, this is an unusual mix of well-drawn characters and supernatural drama." The sequel to Hold Me Closer Necromancer, this book continues a few weeks after the last left off, as Sam adapts to all the changes in his life. Great beginning and ending, a little slow in the middle, but still a great read--wish I knew Sam in real life. And James! I just wanna hug James and tell him everything is gonna be okay, but he'd probably hiss at me.
