The book started off somewhat slowly and perhaps melodramatically but it really picks up later on in ways you'd never have guessed. Spying, intrigue, lots of plot twists, all that good stuff. There's also a fair amount about clockwork-type mechanics (during the industrial revolution), which was interesting as well. Similar books: A Spy in the House (Mary Quinn Mysteries #1) by Y.S. Lee and Secret Letters by Leah Scheier.

I really enjoyed The Dark Unwinding. It wasn't incredibly fast paced, but it had an interesting story line that kept me interested. I loved all of the characters and I thought the book was well written. I usually don't read books in the gothic tale genre, but I'll definitely be picking up the sequel to this one!

This is a very sweet touching story, when it all comes down to it. Yes, there are improbabilities, but the unfolding had my full attention.

Don't let the slow beginning discourage you! Fairly nice writing, likable characters, solid plot.

A captivating read with many details scattered in to show the way towards the finale. Some parts were easy to predict, but the growth and attitudes of the characters were well done.

This was a fun mystery with a touch of romance, but you don't want to look too closely or you'll spot the plot holes.
