Wow. I didn't expect to like it that much. I finished it in a couple hours. It's very well written.

This YA novel about a girl, Chloe, who was kidnapped while on vacation in Greece was a fun and thrilling, quick read. I picked it up at the Ontario Library Association's annual superconference as it was featured in their bookstore. As a future librarian, I'm trying to read outside my "comfort zone" and part of that is reading books aimed at YA and child readers. That being said, I really enjoyed this quick read.

Although Held was a fast read for me, it was emotionally complex and interesting enough to keep my attention. In fact, I read it in a day; I could have read it in a few hours without interruptions. The book has a mix of psychological thriller, humour, emotion, and a some romance as well. I don't recall there being any swearing and there was a minimal amount of sexuality, although it was never overtly sexual--more hinted at. Held deals with issues of hostage-taking/captivity, Stockholm Syndrome, and PTSD without being too "heavy". There are also interesting and relevant vignettes throughout the book between chapters (such as newspaper articles about Chloe's kidnapping or social media (i.e. "FaceBook") conversations between her friends)--these vignettes added to the story, giving some context to Chloe's situation without feeling cheesy or gimmicky.

The book is ideally suited towards teen girls (and perhaps mature pre-teen girls) who like a mix of adventure/thriller and a bit of romance without being too dark or intense. It's probably best suited towards girls who are interested in reading books that have an interesting female protagonist or who like a quick read that has a good balance between action/dialogue and some character development.

Pretty Good. I wish there was a sequel though.

Personally I loved the book. Almost read it in one day, except for two or three pages.
I adore these different kinds of abduction stories. Though I think the description paints a somewhat different picture than the story really is. But I'd recommend in to anyone who is into these style of books. It was a great read.

Not the best book ever, but not the worst either. It had some interesting points, but other than that it dragged on, (and on, and on)
