I liked this book - baseball is a favorite sport of mine, however I did think the story was a bit drawn out. It did not end the way i expected which was a good thing. I'm also glad I got on the list quickly to read it!

I was blown away by the opening chapter and from then on it sagged a bit. Still I love Harbach's easy style. The novel should have been more carefully edited and the plot becomes convoluted, but I'm a sucker for great diction and anything baseball.

I recommend this book very highly. It is a story about many things, including coming of age, dealing with life's difficulties, friendship, family, and the meaning of one's life. After one error in a baseball game by a superb fielder, everyone around the baseball team at a small college has to deal with the consequences that follow. Many issues are covered, including gay lifestyles, ethics, mental health, and more. The characters are well-drawn and are put in interesting situations. This would make a fine discussion book.

Love, love, love this book! Loved how it started and how it ended. There was a while in the middle when I was beginning to question the directions the lives of the characters were taking, but it all ended up working. This one has a spot on my top 10 of all must-reads!

The Art of Fielding was so engrossing that I resented putting it down for activities of daily life. No knowledge of baseball required, but I want to discuss it with an athlete or other person with extreme dedication.

I loved this book until Henry Skrimshander was turned into an archetype and literary cliche. I did finish it, but it was disappointing. There's some good here, hopefully Mr Harbach will find a better editor (if there are any of that type left)

An incredible book, characters and story. Even if you're not a baseball fan, this book will grab you. A must read!
