Summary
Add a SummaryMatched follows Cassia, a girl living in a Utopian/Dystopian society where everything is predicted and controlled by the government including who they will be mated with for life. Cassia's government mandated match is a lifelong friend of hers but when she plugs her data card in to see his information another face pops up on her screen. Cassia falls for Ky and starts to question the rules of her society. Cassia's dystopian world is more like The Giver than other horrifying dystopian societies that have been popular in recent dystopias such as the Hunger Games. Her society is seemingly perfect but also heavily regimented and controlling. To make things more frustrating everytime Cassia does something that she feels is out of the ordinary one of the officials tells her that she was predicted to act in that way. She's never overtly threatened and there is no risk of bodily harm but there is always a risk of being watched. The romance and love triangle which is heavily featured in the story is sweet. There is a large focus on poetry and art which could encourage younger readers to seek out the poem that Cassia treasures.
Quotes
Add a Quotehow is it that two boys who are so different are connected in such unexpected, deep ways? Maybe we all are and we don’t see it anymore.
“Cassia Maria Reyes.” It is my turn. I stand up, letting go of my mother’s hand, and turn toward the screen. I feel my heart pounding and I am tempted to twist my hands the way Lea did, but I hold perfectly still with my chin up and my eyes on the screen. I watch and wait, determined that the girl my Match will see on the screen in his City Hall somewhere out there in Society will be poised and calm and lovely, the very best image of Cassia Maria Reyes that I can present. But nothing happens. I stand and look at the screen, and, as the seconds go by, it is all I can do to stay still, all I can do to keep smiling. Whispers start around me. Out of the corner of my eye, I see my mother move her hand as if to take mine again, but then she pulls it back. A girl in a green dress stands waiting, her heart pounding. Me. The screen is dark, and it stays dark. That can only mean one thing. Haha Gotcha! You'll have to read the book to find out what comes next! =)
“Everything,” I tell him, and it’s true. I’ve waited so long for this: for my Match Banquet where I’ll see for the first time, the face of the boy who will be my Match. It will be the first time I hear his name.

Add a CommentI really enjoyed the whole story and Allyson Condie does such a great job of captivating each character! I can't wait to read the next one:)
i liked the hunger games but not the majority of books usually recommended along with it. this book was AMAZING and i am anticipating the release of the third book in november
Some people may say it's boring, but it honestly depends what ur into. I normally read any book :\
Honestly this book was the most boringest book ever! In my opinion i wouldnt recommend this book to anyone!
Boringest book ever do not read it
Bloody boring.
I liked Matched... I read it because of a recommendation from someone at school, and I was pretty excited to read it. I started it on a long car ride after finishing a book of famous American short stories, so it was kind of a relief to have shorter paragraphs and more action, but the writing seemed sort of simple in comparison. There were a lot of awkward could-be-a-contraction-but wasn't places ("it is" instead of "it's") which irked me. But I'm just picky like that. But all the characters sounded the same. Despite different personalities, they all had the same voice. That isn't a pickiness issue. The story was compelling in a way, and I got into it. It was a hard book to put down and I spent hours on end lying around reading it. I'm somewhat excited for Crossed, though I have seen quite a few bad-ish reviews saying it wasn't as good as Matched. It's hard to compare it to the Hunger Games because in some ways it seems like too much of a copy, like Ally Condie was just jumping on the teen-struggle-with-romance-and-against-dystopian-government band wagon. Granted, the Matching process was an interesting twist. Plus, I'm loyal to the Hunger Games. I read them first. Overall, I liked it but it's not one I'd consider on par with the Hunger Games or Harry Potter.
Great dystopian read! Plus the tension of choosing between two guys and rejecting your societies values was tense.
i love this book and read the second already now need to read the third " REACHED" !!!!
I loved this book! It's truly amazing. If you liked the Hunger Games, you'd like this book too!
